Ugly Things Magazine 30 Year Anniversary Events at the Casbah and Jaynes #uglythings

Ugly Things Magazine 30th

Jaynes is very proud to be supporting our good friend and fellow Brit expat Mike Stax in celebrating 30 years of publishing Ugly Things Magazine.  Ugly Things is the longest continually running garage, punk and psychedelic fanzine in rock’n'roll history.   Mike Stax emigrated here to the U.S. in 1981 after contacting San Diego Crawdaddy lead singer Ron Silva as a fan.   This old fashioned bit of letter writing led to a plane ride to San Diego and the bass chair with the band.   Soon came an action packed 1983 when Mike was a founding member of the legendary Tell Tale Hearts and launched his own Ugly Things Magazine.  This hand-typed zine became the foremost chronicle of  wild things from past dimensions.

This coming weekend, Ugly Things is celebrating 30 years of publishing.  And when I say publishing I mean a hard copy, non digital bi-annual book!  Its one of those magazine you don’t throw away.  For 3 days from Friday 5/24 through Sunday 5/26 there will be bands playing at the Casbah in the magazine’s honor including Johnny Ecchols of Love, The Nashville Ramblers, Glenn Campbell of the Misunderstood and a whole gang of other freaks and misfits.

The full Casbah lineup and ticket info is available here.    A weekend pass is less than a round of beers at Coachella.  Support San Diego live music and one of its greatest voices.

A big thanks to all who came out on Saturday to sip on a sampling of fine wines from Spain’s premier wine producing region and listen to Music from the Tom Ward Trio.  Anybody else love that great version of the Leon Russell/Bonnie Bramlett penned “Superstar”!? Good times were had by all at the 2013 Rioja Tasting and we can’t wait to soak up more days like this on the patio with summer right around the corner.

Recent Nashville transplant Dave Gleason will be wowing the crowds with his 50′s B-Bender Telecaster virtuosity and a grip of original songs for the classic California country fan. Like Buck Owens, Merle, Gram? You get the idea…
