It is finally that time of year when we can get our hands on the coveted Butternut Squash Ravioli from our friends at Assenti’s Pasta on India Street in Little Italy. Assenti’s is our favorite local pasta maker and we’ve been looking forward to the day we can bring back our favorite dish, with their help. We serve Assenti’s Butternut Squash Ravioli in our wild mushroom and mascarpone broth with wild arugula and aged parmesan cheese. This dish is sure to please vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
If you’re more in the mood for meat and potatoes, we’ve got your back. We are offering a Grilled Pork Chop served on crispy fingerling potatoes tossed with swiss chard, pearl onions, roasted peppers, snap peas and topped with a fresh herb chimichurri. This dish already received two thumbs way up at its trial run last night among the staff; we devoured it within a few minutes.
Since we rolling out the hits we have brought back two of our all time favorites: 2010 Provence Rouge from Mas de Gourgonnier and the 2011 Gobelsburger Gruner Veltliner both available by the glass and bottle. The Mas de Gourgonnier is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet and Carignan. We’ve been pouring this periodically for the past 5 years and is one of our most popular wines for the old or new world palate. We sourced the Gobelsburger through Austro-Berkeley wine titan and raconteur Terry Theise (along with a great new champagne) and think this is the best value for Gruner in the world.
We are open the night before Thanksgiving! We’re offering our Steak and Guinness Pies served with thick cut fries and $4 Guinness all night (a preview to our annual monthlong $4 Guinness special in December.) Join us for a night free of cooking and cleaning, but full of beer and good cheer!
And you don’t even have to know what the word ‘terroir‘ means in order to have fun. You just have to like amazing wine, good food, and live music. On September 23rd (it’s a Sunday!), we are hosting a wine tasting with over 50 wines from various purveyors, including Kermit Lynch, Oliver McCrum and Matt Ahern from 2-6. We’ll have entertainment, too: DJ Greyboy will be spinning records and Ron Silva from San Diego garage legends the Crawdaddys will be performing. Mark your calendars and stay tuned, we’ll be posting more details on the blog soon!
We generally trend towards old world, but there are some California producers that we just can’t live without. We just brought in some incredible small production Napa Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Scribe, Banshee, Ghostwriter and Diatom.
