Sunset Magazine: The Jayne Burger is “The Best Burger in the City”

Best_Burger_San _Diego_

We were pretty excited this week when Jayne opened up her new Sunset Magazine March issue and discovered that the Jayne Burger was given the crown for San Diego’s Best Burger!    We know there’s a lot of competition out there for this coveted title, but now is not the time for humility so we’ll just let Freddie Mercury sing us Out.

Happiest Hour (and a half)

Every night we’re open we offer our Cheap & Cheerful Happy Hour from 5-6:30 (Saturdays, too!).  The menu features $5 food, including the Mini Jayne Burger, Sea Bass Fish Tacos, Crispy Calamari, and White Bean Crostini. We also offer $5 cocktails and wine.  It’s a great deal and a really fun way to end the work day / kick off the night.  Happy hour is served in the bar only, but there are a few nice high tables in the window as well.

While you’re at the bar, be sure to try one of Sarah’s newest cocktails.  She’s just updated the offerings to showcase this season’s produce. For the Chocolate Mint Southside Sarah muddles chocolate mint from our own garden with rum, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and a little sugar.  Other cocktails include things like watermelon soaked in rum and a take on the old fashioned using Chalfonte Cognac.  All of which are dangerously drinkable and refreshing.

If you’d like to make a reservation for dinner, we take them online now.  Here’s the link:  RESERVATIONS.  We hope it offers some convenience to you.  We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!

Union Tribune Superdiners nod to the Jayne Burger

The most often heard guest question has to be.  ”What is the best thing on the menu?”  Well if there was a fire and we were forced to rescue just one recipe, it would have to be the Jayne Burger.

One thing we know here at Jaynes is our burger.  We’ve nailed the recipe and it will never leave menu.    Sara Hansen “Superdiner” from the Sarkus wine blog  gave us a nice nod in the Union Trib Column on the city’s best burger today.  She describes our burger thusly:   “Jayne’s Gastropub wins for highest quality and most consistent. They use all-natural, hormone/antibiotic-free Niman Ranch ground beef—topped with Vermont cheddar and garlic aioli. But the real secret is Jayne’s house-made pickled onions, which give the burger an auxiliary sweet-&-salty component.”   Thanks for noticing Sara.  The onions are indeed one of the great assets of the Jayne Burger.  We urge all to try the burger in its original form without any modifications.   We’ll happily prepare it rare to well done.

Tuesday is the best night to come try it.  $16 for the Jayne Burger and any draft beer.  The Jayne Burger is served with a heaping portion of our hand cut double cooked Kennebec fries.    We also feature a 1/2 size version with fries during our happy hour for only $5 which may just be the best happy hour meal in the city.

Jaynes News: Dining Out for Life This Thursday and more…

This Thursday Jaynes will be participating in Dining Out For Life and will be donating 25% of the evenings proceeds to the Center’s HIV/AIDs prevention and services program.  This is always a very fun night here at Jaynes.  This big evening, all over town, plays a critical role in funding San Diego’s fight against HIV/AIDS.  Come in Thursday for dinner or even just some drinks.  Every little bit helps.

Tuesday through Thursday this week we will be serving our much loved Buttermilk Free Range Fried Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Collard Greens with Smoked Bacon 16.50

Tuesday is still Jayne Burger Night.  $15 for the Jayne Burger and any draft beer.   I know people have their burger preferences around town, but this is one you just have to try.  Right now the draft list includes Trumer Pils, Chimay White, Alesmith IPA, St Bernardus ABT 12, Fox Barrel Apple Cider and Guinness.

I think we may be onto something with our cocktail program!  If high quality spirits, fresh squeezed juices, craft mixers, vermouths and egg whites are in your beverage vocabulary, Wednesday is your night. All of the drinks on our Specialty Cocktail menu are only $6.

We hope to see you all very soon!
