This year marks the 179th Oktoberfest celebration in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. About 6 million people from around the world flock to Munich for 16 days to celebrate beer with close to 7 million liters being consumed every year. In honor of this extraordinary event we are proclaiming this week Oktoberfest at Jaynes!
Please join us for delicious traditional German fare, including our spectacular handmade Wiener Schnitzel with gruyere cheese spaetzel, sautéed broccolini and fresh lemonwedges.
We’ll also be featuring a Grilled Bratwurst with Rotkohi (marinated red cabbage) 2 delicious ways! Would you like it on a roll with spicy mustard or do you prefer your Brat with a heaping portion of garlic mashed potatoes?
To help you revel in the greatness of beer we are featuring the original Schneider Weisse Hefe-weizen ale on draft, which has been perfectly brewed since 1872. By the bottle you can choose from Hofbrau Oktoberfest, Kostritzer Dark Lager and Weihenstephaner Original Lager. All are only $5 this week. If you want stay true to German tradition ask Sarah to add a splash of Waldmeister (woodruff flavored syrup) or Himbeer (raspberry flavored syrup) to your Trumer Pilsner or Weisse beer.

Fall and Winter menu changes are coming up and this weekend we are celebrating Oktoberfest with a Niman Ranch Bratwurst paired with the Spaten Oktoberfest Marzen. Marzen is a slowly fermented dark lager that pairs perfectly with hearty food. Spaten is one of the original German brewers making this beer in the traditional style.
We also have some amazing new wines including:
-2007 Hofstatter Pinot Nero(Noir) from Alto Adige, the German speaking northern province of Italy. Lovely Pinot Noir that Jon and Jayne recently enjoyed at Zuni SF. Had to have it at Jaynes.
-2006 Movia Ribolla from Slovenia, a wonderfully rich and unique winter white made 100% naturally by our good friend Ales at Movia.
-2005 Palazzo Cabernet Franc from Carneros, Napa. Scott Palazzo makes one of the most honest wines we’ve tasted from California with a true expression of Cabernet Franc. Note that this wine likes to see a minimum of 1 hour of air time in the decanter so please inform your server ahead of time.
-2005 Tommasi Rompicollo. Tuscan blend of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in large Slovenian casks instead of the small oak barrels typically used for “super tuscans”, this wine is not overpowered by oak contact and maintains a fresh acidity. This wine is a hit with both traditonalist and modernist. At $8 a glass or $30 a bottle, an amazing value.
