Wiener Schnitzel Week Begins and Jaynes named one of San Diego’s Essential 38 Restaurants.

We’re recovering from a wildly busy 6th Anniversary/Valentine’s weekend and firing up Wiener Schnitzel Week!   This is one of the most beloved dishes in our quiver and we’ll be serving it Tuesday through Saturday night.  Our preparation of the Austrian National dish is made with tender, pounded and breaded Duroc pork, housemade spaetzle with melted gruyere with broccolini and fresh lemon.  This is an easy pairing with a variety of beers and a glass of Gruner Veltliner or Rielsing wouldn’t be too shabby either.

We’re also pretty psyched to have been named of of San Diego’s 38 Essential Restaurants by Eater San Diego,  There are a lot of great restaurants on that list and we’re honored by the nod.   Read about it here.

We open today at 5pm for Happy Hour and feature the Jayne Burger and any Draft Beer for $16 tonight, Tuesday.

Week of Wiener Schnitzel

Tonight, starting at 5 and running through Saturday, we are offering our very popular Wiener Schnitzel, made with tender Duroc pork, spaetzle with melted gruyerre, and broccolini with fresh lemon.  We’ve even got a perfect beer for pairing: Schneider Weisse Hefeweizen — balanced malt and yeast, with hints of meyer lemon and apple cider.

We’ve got some great cocktails on the list this season, including the Strawberry Mule: Strawberry-infused vodka with house-made ginger syrup and fresh lime in a tall glass.

In addition to all this good stuff, we’ve got the regular Tuesday special: The Jayne’s burger with any draft beer for $16.  If you haven’t tried the burger here yet, you really should.  Really.

Wiener Schnitzel and beer, berries and vodka, a beautiful patio and smiling faces await you. We look forward to seeing you this week!

Jaynes News for the Weekend: Wiener Schnitzel, Farmer’s Market Gems and Gaja!


Hello everyone! It’s been a little while, but all is well here at Jaynes and with little Romy. Thank you to everyone for all your friendship and support during these REM-sleep free last few months.

Starting tonight and running through the weekend we have a few great specials, not the least of which is our Duroc Pork Wiener Schnitzel with Gruyere Spaetzle This is one of our top 5 dishes and I always get in big trouble with guests when I don’t make an announcement! We are also serving the Leth Gruner Veltiner by the glass which is a perfect pairing. Gruner Veltiner is a white grape variety grown primarily in Austria and is one of the world’s most versatile food wines. For beer drinkers we are now pouring Duvel on draft which isn’t too shabby a combo either.

Soups on. We’ve been working closely with a Santa Monica Farmer’s Market buyer who has been sourcing us some incredible produce. We found a squash varietal called Zephyr Squash from Jaime Farms that we’ve made into one of our best soups to date.

Also from the market comes a Crostini of Fava Bean Puree on grilled Bread and Cie lemon Pugliese bread with shaved pecorino and mint.

GAJA by the glass! Angelo Gaja is the King of modern Italian wines and we are excited to be pouring his 2008 Bolgheri Rosso “Promis” from his Ca Marcanda Tuscany estate. It is a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese and we will be pouring it all weekend by the glass.

Natural Wine Tasting Series Continues. Saturday September 10th. We are hosting a Sicilian Wine Tasting the afternoon of Saturday September the 10th from 4-6pm with good friend John Yelenosky. Sicily is now creating some of the most exciting wines in Italy and we’ll have some of the best here. Full details coming next week.

Come visit us for our Cheap and Cheerful Happy Hour Tuesday-Saturday from 5-6:30 in the bar. $4 Guinness and Trumer, wine and cocktail specials and the most delicous $5 bar menu around! If you haven’t become acquainted you definitely need to meet our Sarah Ellis.
